The history of Planned Parenthood began more than 90 years ago. It all started with a pamphlet.
Margaret Sanger wrote the pamphlet to urge women to come to a new family planning clinic she was about to open the first of its kind in America. Women could come to the clinic and learn about birth control, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid the dangers of unsafe, illegal abortions.
Since then, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) has published millions of pamphlets on sexual and reproductive health issues. Over the years, our award-winning publications have helped more than 30 million women, men, and teens make informed, responsible choices about their sex lives, sexual health, and sexual well-being.
- Most of our titles are written at or below a seventh-grade reading level.
- We review and revise most of our publications approximately every 18 months.
- Nearly half of our titles have won prestigious National Health Information Awards.
- Our most popular titles are also available in Spanish.
Our information
We provide the highest-quality, most up-to-date sexual health information at the lowest cost. Our pamphlets are based on the latest scientific information and the experience of Planned Parenthood health care providers and educators nationwide. The information in our pamphlets is consistent with the sexual health information published on our website, as well as with leading authorities on sexual health, including the World Health Organization, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Guttmacher Institute, and Contraceptive Technology.
Our customers
Every year, thousands of health care providers and sexuality educators use PPFA pamphlets for client education. Our pamphlets compliment the medical services offered in Planned Parenthood health centers and the education programs offered by Planned Parenthood sexuality educators. They are also preferred by many state and county health departments, private health care providers, HMOs, high school and college health care centers, and parents who want information about how to talk with their kids about sexuality.
Let us serve you
For most of the 20th century, Planned Parenthood has served its clients as America’s most trusted name in sexual health. As we move forward into the 21st century, we are proud of the role our publications have played in earning that trust, and we hope you will consider providing your clients with our carefully considered sexual health information.
